There are so many pizza outfits that offer delivery services. This includes Pizza Hut, Donino Pizza, Round Table Pizza, etc. Typically, people recommend tipping restaurant waiters/waitresses 15% of the total bill. But how should we treat the delivery person?
The pizza delivery person can be viewed as a form of waiter/waitress. Instead of bringing the food to your table, the person delivers the food to your house. There is actually a website that talks about tippig the delivery person. The site mentions that, "You're supposed to tip the pizza delivery driver like you tip the waiter. They rely on tips and use their own car."
My Position: I say we should tip the pizza delivery person a flat tip, say $2.00 regardless of the total cost of the pizza.
My Friend's Position: My friend says we should tip the pizza delivery person just like we normally tip a waiter or a waitress at a restaurant. So, for a pizza bill of $30, the tip should be $4.50 for 15%. The higher the bill, the higher the tip.
I disagee because pizza delivery person does not have to do very much to deliver the pizza. There is no water to refill. There is no need to ask "how is your food?". There is no need to answer annoying questions from me or my friends. Pretty much, all that is done is to bring the pizza to the car, and from the car to my house. How hard can that be? I say $2.00 is good enough.
